Large Moths Frame
Cecropia moth (Hyalophora cecropia) Is the largest species of silkmoths found in North America. Ranging from the Rockies to the eastern forests, and up through Canada.
Attacus atlas- is the largest of all leptidopterans. With an almost 10in wingspan. The name Atlas is from Greek mythology, named after the Titan who held up the earth. The sharp angles on their forewings are noted to resemble a snakes head, from which they get their nickname, "snakes head"! The energy it takes to move their large bodies can make days off their already very short lives, thus they fly as little as possible. The females will wait for a male to fertilize their eggs, and die after laying them. They inhabit most of Asia at this time.
Both of these species of moths are born without a mouth, and rely on the fat stores for their adult lifespan. Cased in a distressed barn-wood 8x10 in frame.
